Captions · question

Is the Captions app worth it in 2026?

Captions sells itself as "AI that edits like a professional editor would." Its users in October 2026 describe something more metered.

The short answer

For light caption work, maybe. For finished talking-head videos, its own recent reviews say no: credits emptied in two videos, AI Edit ignoring instructions, export held until you pay more, and prices that its pricing page says reflect iOS plans only. RealTake makes the whole video from one raw upload, with every feature in every plan and the cost shown before it renders.

What Captions users say in 2026

The reviews from the last month on Trustpilot and the App Store repeat four complaints:

Add the Mirage rebrand, where users report they "have to migrate their projects manually" and that they "liked the older web version better" (Trustpilot, Oct 2026), and the picture is a product in flux that bills by the feature.

Why "worth it" depends on what you count

Captions Max is $24.99 a month for 500 credits, on iOS. The headline price is low. The cost per finished video is not, because b-roll, music, sound effects, images and generation each draw credits, and credits spent correcting an edit are still spent. Two videos can empty a month, as the review above says. Its help docs also limit AI Edit to a single speaker and a 3-minute clip (Captions help).

What RealTake does instead

RealTake takes one raw video of you talking and plans the whole edit: the hook, the cuts, the captions, the b-roll, 200+ motion graphics, sound and a style built from the formats working on social this week. Every one of those is part of every video on every plan. The Studio shows the entire edit on one screen so you can change anything before it renders. Every finished video comes with editor's notes: what was edited, the time saved, a score for hook, content and pacing, and one thing to try next time. Then post or schedule to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube from RealTake.

RealTake is priced by how often you post, with every feature in every video on every plan. You see the cost of a video before it is made, changes in the Studio before render cost nothing, a failed render is never charged, and a reminder email arrives before any renewal.

See your own video finished, with nothing held back for credits.
Free plan: 5 watermarked videos a month. No credit card.
