Automatic b-roll for talking-head video, starting with your own footage

Upload your own clips once. RealTake indexes what is in them and pulls the right one in when you mention it. Licensed stock and AI generation cover the lines you have no footage for.

The short answer

RealTake adds b-roll to a talking-head video automatically from three sources: your own uploaded footage, licensed stock footage, and AI-generated images and clips. Your uploads are indexed by what is in them, so when you mention something you have footage of, that clip is placed over the line. AI generation is off by default and needs your approval.

Your footage library

A b-roll library that knows what is in your clips

The best b-roll for your video is usually footage of your own work: your gym, your office, your product, your demo. The problem is finding the clip and placing it by hand every time.

RealTake indexes your uploads by what is in them. When you mention something you have footage of, that clip is pulled in automatically.

  • Example. A trainer mentions push-ups in a take. Their own push-up demo appears over that line.
  • It grows. The library gets bigger with every upload, so there is more of your own footage to draw on each time.
  • It is yours. Library clips stay in your account and can be downloaded or deleted any time.

How your own footage gets into a short

  1. Upload clips to your library

Add the footage you already have. Storage is 2 GB on the free plan and 10, 30 or 100 GB on paid plans.

  2. RealTake indexes each clip

Every upload is indexed by what is in it. You do not tag or name anything for this to work.

  3. Record a take and mention it

When a line in your take matches footage in your library, that clip is placed over the line. You check the placement in the Studio.

Three b-roll sources

RealTake draws on all three and you can swap between them for any shot.

Your own uploads

Footage from your library, matched to what you say. This is the source that makes a short look like your business and not like everyone else's.

Licensed stock footage

For general lines where a stock shot does the job. You can also search stock yourself in the Studio.

AI-generated images and clips

For lines where no suitable shot exists. Off by default, and nothing is generated until you approve it.

AI b-roll generator

AI-generated visuals: off by default, approved by you

Some lines have no footage anywhere: an abstract idea, a specific scenario, a thing you have not filmed. For those, RealTake can generate an image or clip for the exact line being spoken.

  • Off by default. Generation does not happen unless you turn it on.
  • You approve first. Nothing is generated without your approval.
  • Counted per plan. The unit is AI-Generated Assets: up to about 12 a month on the free plan, and about 100, 250 or 560 on the paid plans.

Generated visuals illustrate what you are saying. They do not replace you. RealTake is not an avatar generator, and the person on screen is always the real you.

How much b-roll is added, and where

B-roll density has three levels. Medium is about 6 clips in a short, roughly one every 8 seconds. Placement is decided in the edit plan together with everything else, so emphasis zooms are positioned where they do not collide with b-roll.

Changing b-roll in the Studio

Every b-roll choice is a suggestion until you render. In the Studio, stock search, AI generation and your uploads sit in one panel, so you can replace a shot from any source. You can also move, resize, rotate and crop any element on screen.

FAQs

How do I add b-roll to a talking head video automatically?
Upload your raw take to RealTake. It plans where b-roll belongs and places clips from your own library, licensed stock or AI generation. You review and change every shot before rendering.
Can RealTake use my own footage as b-roll?
Yes. Uploads are indexed by what is in them. When you mention something you have footage of, that clip is pulled in automatically.
Is RealTake an AI b-roll generator?
It can generate an image or clip for a specific line when no suitable shot exists. Generation is off by default and you approve before anything is generated. It is one of three b-roll sources, alongside your uploads and licensed stock.
How many b-roll clips does RealTake add to a short?
There are three density levels. Medium is about 6 clips, roughly one every 8 seconds.
Can I replace a b-roll clip I do not like?
Yes. In the Studio you can swap any shot using stock search, AI generation or your own uploads, all from one panel.
How much footage can I store in my RealTake library?
2 GB on the free plan, and 10, 30 or 100 GB on the paid plans. See pricing.
Do I have to tag my clips for RealTake to find them?
No. Uploads are indexed by what is in them, and matching to your take is automatic.
