What people who edit with Claude say it can do
Search "can Claude edit videos" and the honest answers come from people who built the setup and wrote it up:
- "Silence cuts plus word-boundary snapping gets you 90% of a paid rough cut. What it won't do is creative pacing, b-roll selection, or taste." (Jordan Hongtai)
- "The first render usually needed human correction": blur over text, a clipped per-cent sign, a logo missing from the export. "I wouldn't post this, but it's getting better." (Clixie)
- Claude "does not contextualize the clips properly" and "decided the important part was that the helmet was well lit." (r/ClaudeAI)
- Jump cuts "clip words or leave awkward pauses" and graphics "cover the speaker's face." (ChatPRD workflow)
So the answer is yes for the mechanical half of editing, and no for the half that makes a video worth watching.
Why it stops at a rough cut
A language model edits by reading. It gets a transcript, or frames sampled from the video, and writes FFmpeg commands. It never watches the footage the way an editor does, so it cannot tell a strong delivery from a weak one, a retake from the keeper, or where a b-roll shot would land. One write-up notes that auto-editor "cannot tell a retake from a good take" (laozhang). Add the plumbing, a caption model, a render stack, filters that go missing, and you have a toolchain to run before you have a video.
How RealTake does it instead
RealTake runs the same job as a product. Upload a raw video of yourself talking; the Director plans the whole edit, cuts the rambles with a reason on every cut, puts word-level captions on the frame, places b-roll and 200+ motion graphics clear of your face, adds sound, and renders in the cloud in minutes. Change anything in the Studio before it renders at no cost, then post or schedule it to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. Every feature is on every plan, you see the cost before anything renders, and a failed render is never charged.
Upload one raw video and see the finished edit.
Free plan: 5 watermarked videos a month. No credit card.
