Descript · question

Does Descript's AI edit delete words?

Its users say it does, and that the audio slips when it happens.

The short answer

Yes, according to Descript's own users: "it kept deleting actual words out of the hook and desyncing the audio track," and in a lecture "many of the words important to the understanding… were removed." An edit you cannot see the reason for is an edit you have to check line by line. RealTake removes rambles, retakes, filler and dead air, labels every cut with its reason, and lets you restore any cut in one click in the Studio.

What Descript users say about deleted words

  • "It kept deleting actual words out of the hook and desyncing the audio track." (Trustpilot)
  • "Many of the words important to the understanding of the lecture were removed." (Trustpilot, August 2026)
  • "Underlord, the AI assistant, gave contradictory guidance throughout." (Capterra, June 2026)

Why an unlabeled cut costs you the hook

Descript's AI edit works on the transcript: it removes filler, pauses and what it judges to be repeats, then re-times the audio. When it removes a word that carried the sentence, there is no note saying why, so the only way to find it is to listen to the whole video again. The hook is where it hurts most, because the first three seconds decide whether anyone keeps watching. A desynced track on top of that means re-doing the cut by hand.

How RealTake cuts instead

RealTake's smart cuts remove rambles, repeats, filler and dead air, and when you stumble and say a line again, they keep the best delivery of that line. Every cut is labeled with the reason it was made, and every cut is reversible in the Studio with one click, so nothing is removed that you cannot see and put back. Editing strength has levels, and tight pacing is a slider from natural to very tight. The captions are built from the same word-level transcript, so what you hear and what is on screen stay in sync.

If you want to check the edit before it renders, turn on review in the Studio: the whole edit sits on one screen with lanes for captions, titles, graphics, b-roll, video and sound. Changes there cost nothing. Press Continue when it is right.

Every RealTake feature is on every plan. You see the cost of a video before it renders, changes in the Studio before render cost nothing, and a failed render is never charged.
