Descript · question

Why do Descript AI credits run out so fast?

Descript's own users answer this one on its feature board and on Trustpilot.

The short answer

Because every AI action in Descript draws from one monthly credit pool, and the cost of each action is not shown before you run it. Users on the Creator plan report all 800 credits gone in two days, and Hobbyist users report the month spent on a single video. RealTake includes a number of finished videos in each plan, with every feature, and shows you the cost of a video before it renders.

What Descript users say about credits

Search "descript credits gone" and the complaint is the same on every site, in their words:

  • "After editing just one video all my monthly credits are gone." (Descript feature board, February 2026)
  • "Exhausted all 800 AI credits within 2 days… processing only 12 out of 1,800 available media minutes." (Trustpilot)
  • "Credits are consumed very fast and then you get either stuck or broke." (Trustpilot)

Per-action credit pricing transparency is itself a request on Descript's board. People are not asking for more credits. They are asking to know what a click costs.

Why the pool empties

Descript's Hobbyist plan is $24 a month, or $16 billed yearly, for 400 AI credits and 10 media hours; Creator is $35, or $24 yearly, for 800 credits. Every AI feature, the AI editor, filler removal, clean-up, generated elements, spends from that pool, and the price of each action is not shown up front. One long video with a few passes of AI editing can clear a month's allowance, which is why users describe 800 credits gone while most of their media hours sat unused. The media hours are not the limit. The credits are.

How RealTake prices instead

RealTake does not sell an editor seat with a credit pool. Each plan includes a number of finished videos a month: Starter is free with 5 watermarked videos, Presence is $49 a month, or $29 billed yearly, with around 16 to 32 finished videos, Authority $99 with around 38 to 76, Empire $249 with around 107 to 213. A finished video means the cuts, animated captions, titles, b-roll, motion graphics, sound and camera moves, all done, and posted or scheduled to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Every RealTake feature is on every plan. You see the cost of a video before it renders, changes in the Studio before render cost nothing, and a failed render is never charged.

The Studio, where you review the whole edit on one screen, is free to use for as long as you like before you press Continue.
