Opus Clip · question

Why do my Opus Clip credits run out so fast?

Because the meter runs on what you upload, not on what you keep.

The short answer

Opus Clip spends one credit per minute of video you import, before you have seen a clip, and three more per clip to post to X. A 60-minute episode is 60 credits on a 150-credit Starter plan; re-run it and it is 120. Users report credits that "don't go as far" and renewals billed with thousands unused. RealTake covers finding moments with plan source minutes and spends credits only on clips you make.

Where the credits go

From Opus Clip's help docs: "processing clips will cost 1 credit per minute of the original video imported". Posting to X costs 3 credits per clip, per account. Starter is 150 credits a month, Pro 300 (pricing, read October 28, 2026).

The arithmetic: two one-hour episodes a month use up Starter before you post anything. Re-import an episode to try a different setting and you pay the minutes again. Top-ups are Pro-only.

What users report

  • "They have reduced how far my credits go." (Trustpilot)
  • "Every time you turn around, they want you to buy more credits." (Trustpilot)
  • "Getting charged for a renewal when I still have nearly 2,000 credits left." (G2)
  • "They take away all your unused credit after the 12 month window." (Trustpilot)

Both ends of that are the same problem: the credits run out when you use the tool and disappear when you do not.

What RealTake charges for instead

Importing an episode and finding the moments is covered by the source minutes in your plan. "Find more about pricing" pulls extra moments from the transcript RealTake already has, with nothing re-uploaded and no minutes spent twice. Credits go only on the clips you choose to make, and you see the cost before anything renders. Posting and scheduling to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube is included.

Finding moments is covered by your plan's source minutes: 60 on the free plan, then 600, 1,500 and 4,000 a month. Credits are spent only on the clips you choose to make, you see the cost before anything renders, and a failed render is never charged. Every feature, including b-roll, all four shapes and posting, is on every plan.
