Riverside Magic Clips vs Opus Clip

Two ways to get a rough cut from a podcast. One way to get a clip you can post.

The short answer

Riverside Magic Clips come free with its recorder and its users call them "a gimmick" with boundaries that are "not directly useful". Opus Clip is built for clipping, charges one credit per minute of source video imported, and its users say "you didn't use the good parts", with a 40% discard rate in one 2026 test. Neither hands you a finished clip. RealTake takes the recording from either, proposes moments with a reason, lets you clip any part yourself, and returns clips fully edited and posted.

What their users say

On Riverside: "Magic clips are just a gimmick, they suck at finding the best clips, and the lengths are all over the place" (PolyInnovator), and "the boundaries of the clip and the editing make them not directly useful" (Capterra).

On Opus Clip: "I'm always like, you didn't use the good parts" (r/podcasting, via eesel), "the split screen does not detect the second speaker" (Product Hunt), and a 2026 test by BigVU, a rival tool, found roughly 40% of generated clips ended up discarded (BigVU). Opus Clip's most-voted unbuilt request is manual clipping with the AI captions kept (Opus Clip feature board).

How the two charge you

Riverside does not meter Magic Clips by the minute; the real caps on its Pro plan ($29 a month, $24 billed yearly) are 15 separate-track download hours and AI credits for b-roll and translation (riverside.com pricing). Opus Clip spends one credit per minute of source video imported, whether or not a single clip is worth keeping; Starter is $15 a month for 150 credits, Pro $29 for 300 (Opus Clip help). In both cases what comes out is a cut you still have to take somewhere else to finish.

How RealTake does it instead

RealTake Clips reads the whole episode and proposes moments that stand on their own: the setup and the payoff together, starting on a strong line, never ending on the other person's next question. Each moment comes with a title and a one-line reason it works. There is no virality score, on purpose.

Then you decide. Watch any moment in one click, trim it by dragging the edges, make your own clip from the timeline or by tapping the first and last line of the transcript on your phone, or type "find more about pricing" to get more moments from the transcript you already have. Every clip you choose gets the full RealTake edit, animated captions, b-roll, titles, motion graphics and sound, and posts or schedules to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube from RealTake.

It works on a Riverside recording, a Zoom recording with separate tracks, or your own cameras: drop every person's file in at once and they are synced by audio, with leaked voice from the other mic removed.

Finding moments is covered by your plan's source minutes: 60 on the free plan, then 600, 1,500 and 4,000 a month. Credits are spent only on the clips you choose to make, and you see the cost before anything renders.

Drop in your last episode and see the moments.
