Riverside · question

How do I turn a Riverside recording into finished clips?

Five steps, no timeline, and the clips come back edited and posted.

The short answer

Download each person's separate track from Riverside, drop all the files into RealTake together (or paste a Google Drive or Dropbox link), and they are synced by their audio. RealTake proposes the moments with a reason, you pick or make your own, and every clip comes back fully edited and posts to LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. No clapper, no manual sync, no second editor.

Why Riverside's own clips are not the finished article

Riverside users describe Magic Clips with boundaries that "make them not directly useful" (Capterra) and call the feature "a gimmick" (PolyInnovator). They ask for "an easier way to manually clip moments" (Capterra). The recording is good; the clipping is the part to take elsewhere.

The steps

  1. Download the separate tracks. Each person's camera and mic file, as Riverside records them.
  2. Drop them all into RealTake at once and name each camera, or paste a Google Drive or Dropbox share link. Files up to 20 GB each; episodes up to 3 hours on paid plans.
  3. Let it sync and read. Tracks are lined up by their audio. The whole conversation is transcribed with each word credited to the right person, and voice that leaked into the other mic is removed. You can leave; you get an email when the moments are ready.
  4. Pick the moments. Each one has a title and a one-line reason it works. Watch it in one click, trim it, make your own from the timeline or by tapping two transcript lines on your phone, or ask for more on a topic.
  5. Choose the shape and make them. 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9; Auto, Active speaker, Split screen or Fit layout. Make them all at once in one style, or one by one. Every clip gets the full RealTake edit, and you post or schedule it from RealTake.

What you get that Riverside does not give you

Auto layout cuts to whoever is talking, ignores the quick "mm-hm"s, and shows both people when they talk over each other. Each person has their own volume slider and a one-click Normalize. Captions are animated word by word, with 29 presets and every word editable. B-roll, titles, 200+ motion graphics and sound are placed clear of your face. Open the Studio only if you want to change something.

FAQs

Do I need to export a combined video from Riverside first?
No. Drop in each person's separate track and RealTake lines them up by their audio. A single combined file works too.
How long can the recording be?
Up to 3 hours on paid plans and 60 minutes on the free plan, from an upload up to 20 GB per file or a Google Drive or Dropbox link. Clips run up to 2 minutes.
Can I use the Riverside transcript?
You do not need it. RealTake transcribes the whole conversation itself, credits each word to the right speaker, and lets you download the transcript as .txt or .srt.
